We are indebted to many of our current members who unselfishly volunteered time and energy to all phases of "Here Between" in order to make this exhibition possible. This year the Curatorial Committee consists of three dedicated members: Chie Nishio, Paula DeLuccia, and Hee Jung Kim -- and myself. Together we spent many hours choosing the fine work to be included in this excellent show.
A special thanks to Risa Kojo, who did a beautiful job with the online catalog and created CDs of the catalog for sale; and Seema Christie who designed the invitation announcement and flyers for publicity.
The year 2005 has proven to be a turning point for AAWAA. With the Ford Foundation grant via the Brooklyn Arts Council, and the assistance of Rhoda Barr from the Volunteer Consulting Group, we have finally formed an official Board. Our Board of Directors are Jacie Lee Almira, Dr. Hwa Young Caruso, Cynthia Hswe, Hee Jung Kim, Yan Kong, and Chie Nishio. Each Director has volunteered to be responsible for a specific working committee: Jacie Lee, the Treasurer; Hwa Young, publicity; Cynthia, marketing; Hee Jung and Chie, exhibitions; and Yan, grant writing. I gratefully look forward to working with these wonderful, talented women. AAWAA’s future is in good hands.
This exhibition is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts. In Kings County the Decentralization Program is administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc. (BAC). I also would like to acknowledge funding support from the Puffin Foundation and the Open Meadow Foundation for our exhibition program.
Finally, this exhibition catalog is produced not only for the documentation of AAWAA's efforts in supporting emerging Asian women artists, but also as a literary forum for Asian American women's experience.
